SMS terms & conditions

The rules for the text messages AoR HQ sends you. Short, in plain English, and written for volunteers and campaigns — not litigators.

Last updated April 22, 2026·Applies to all users who opt in to SMS

By choosing "Text" or "Both" in your notification preferences, you agree to receive operational text messages from AoR HQ ("the Platform," "we," or "us") at the mobile number you provide. These SMS Terms supplement — and don't replace — our main Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

01Program enrollment

AoR HQ sends operational SMS notifications through our SMS provider (Twilio). You opt in by selecting Text or Both in Settings → Notifications after creating an account, and by providing a mobile number you control.

Consent to receive text messages is not required to use AoR HQ. Email notifications remain available as an alternative.

02What we send

Messages are transactional only — we do not send marketing texts. You may receive messages about:

  • A volunteer applying to your help request
  • Being assigned to a help request
  • An introduction between a candidate and a volunteer
  • A change to the status of a help request you're on
  • A help request being marked complete
  • An assignment being revoked
  • An invite to join the Platform

03Message frequency

Message frequency depends on your activity on the Platform. We cap delivery at 5 messages per hour and 20 messages per 24 hours per user. When a cap is hit, we fall back to email so you're still notified.

04Message & data rates

Message and data rates may apply. Check with your mobile carrier for details on your plan. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. If your mobile operator is not participating, you will not receive a reply.

05Eligibility

SMS is currently available to US mobile numbers only. You must be at least 18 years old and the authorized user of the number you enroll. Non-US numbers are rejected at entry time.

If your number changes, update it in Settings → Notifications. You are responsible for notifying us — we can't know on our own that a number has been reassigned.

06Opting out (STOP)

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any SMS from AoR HQ. When we receive a STOP reply:

  • We move your notification preference to Email only.
  • We stop sending texts to that number.
  • You may receive one final confirmation message.

STOP applies to the number it was sent from. If you use AoR HQ from multiple numbers, opt out from each one.

07Getting help (HELP)

Reply HELP to any AoR HQ text for a support message, or email legal@aorhq.org. A real person will get back to you.

08Re-enrolling

Changed your mind? You can opt back in at any time by switching your preference back to Text or Both in Settings → Notifications. Re-enrolling is treated as a fresh opt-in under these SMS Terms.

09Supported carriers

Major US carriers are supported through our SMS provider. Carriers may change participation without notice, and we can't guarantee delivery on every network. If your carrier isn't participating, you won't receive SMS notifications from us and should use email notifications instead.

10Privacy & data

We store your phone number only to deliver these notifications and to honor opt-outs. We share it with our SMS provider (Twilio) strictly for message delivery. We do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

11Changes to these SMS Terms

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. For material changes, we'll give you at least 14 days' notice by email or a prominent in-app notice before they take effect. Continued enrollment after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

12Disclaimers & liability

The SMS program is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't guarantee delivery, timing, or carrier behavior. To the maximum extent permitted by law, AoR HQ, LLC and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from missed, delayed, or undelivered messages. The full disclaimers and limitations of liability in our Terms of Service also apply here.
